Every tried it? You know... its that archaic wonderful thing that your grandmother did to preserve the harvest and feed her family during the lean months. I've been reading "Animal Vegetable Miracle" by Barbara Kingsolver (go read it now because it is awesome) and she writes extensively about canning and preserving food. So, I'm inspired to give it a go. (I know that after reading my previous post some of you are rolling your eyes and saying, "Really? Canning? You don't have time for canning!" But it might be a great way to slow down.)

I do tomato canning/preserving every year and have been for 20 yrs ... just tomatoes, tomato soup, sauce ...all in jars. I also freeze some and I dehydrate some. It takes some work but is so satisfying. I've got 25 big jars done so far and want to do more. There is nothing more satisfying than in February opening up a jar of tomato soup. You'll love it.
oh, I would love to can. Why do I find the idea so overwhelming? I read about it...I would need a class from an experienced Grandmother...Great pics. Would love to hear how it goes for you!
I started canning at the age of 30. I went to the library and got one book out (google is now a good option) ... tried a few things, failed at a few things, succeeded with many things and have been going strong since ...
I don't have the fancy equipment. I pull out my jars from the boiling water bath with a cloth and my hands ... it's fine.
Hope you try it ... it's not as hard as it seems ...
I agree it is not as hard as it seems. I have done it and recommend the Ball Blue Book of Canning.
